THE country’s biggest business conglomerate, San Miguel Corporation, has pumped back 95 percent of its P1.5 trillion revenue in 2025 into the bigger economy, underscoring its commitment to help sustain national development.

In its latest Sustainability Report, SMC said it distributed a total of P1.43 trillion it generated last year to support Philippine businesses, government programs, communities, as well as investors, suppliers and employees in the supply chain.

The company disclosed that it spent P995 billion as payments for suppliers and businesses across its nationwide network, thus enabling them to sustain operations, generate income, and provide employment in communities.

Some P221 billion, meanwhile, was allocated for taxes and other government payments that helped fund public services, infrastructure, and social programs, while a total of P153 billion went to investors, shareholders, and other capital providers.

SMC also said it distributed a total of P58 billion to its workforce, which has grown to a total of 59,117 in 2025, with about 64 percent of them based outside Metro Manila.

The rest of the plowback, or a total of P560 million, was invested in community development programs like reforestation, water conservation, and river restoration.

On the other hand, SMC reported that a total of P79.6 billion remained in its core net income, which it said would support growth and further investments.

SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said the conglomerate creates value that goes well beyond financial performance.

“Our job is not just to provide quality food and beverage products, and access to everyday necessities such as power, fuel and infrastructure. Our bigger mission is to help sustain our economy and create the conditions needed to ensure more Filipinos have jobs and opportunities that can uplift and sustainably improve their lives,” Ang said in a statement.

Aside from its financial performance, the SMC Sustainability Report enumerated the conglomerate’s progress on a broad business front: 5,710 megawatts of total energy capacity; 225 kilometers of expressways; fuel refining capacity of 180,000 barrels per day in Bataan; and annual cement production capacity of 17.5 million metric tons.

For its environmental program, SMC reported 8.14 million trees planted through various reforestation programs nationwide; 58 billion liters of water saved since 2017 through desalination, conservation, recycling, reuse and rainwater harvesting; and 8.95 million tons of silt and waste removed from major rivers systems through its Better Rivers PH initiative, which it started in 2020.

In community development, SMC said it reached more than 200,000 individuals through volunteer programs, with 4,298 employee volunteers contributing 65,415 hours across about 600 activities nationwide.

The company also said it completed climate risk assessments across all major operating assets, earned 282 internationally recognized certifications, recorded zero data breaches during the year, and screened nearly 200 suppliers for their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) profile and performance. ▲
