BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — A coral reef restoration activity through a coral reef block technology was conducted in Barangay Guisian in Mogpog town, initiated by the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) in collaboration with Team Kalikasan, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), Maritime Police, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Marinduque Tourist Police Unit.

MAO said the marine restoration activity aimed to support the rehabilitation of coral reefs and expand marine areas that can serve as habitats and breeding grounds for various marine organisms. 

“Suitable reef blocks were installed in selected areas of the sea to serve as substrates for coral growth and provide shelter for different marine organisms,” it said.

The activity also highlighted the importance of protecting marine ecosystems that support the livelihood of local fisherfolk and contribute to the productivity of the community’s coastal waters.

The initiative demonstrated the importance of bayanihan and inter-agency collaboration in advancing environmental protection and marine ecosystem rehabilitation. Through the combined efforts of government agencies, the local government, and the community, efforts to protect and restore marine resources can be strengthened.
