SUBIC, Zambales — Zambales 1st District Representative Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun has assured residents of Barangay Sta. Fe, San Marcelino, Zambales that a new bridge will be built to reconnect the isolated community at the soonest time possible.
Khonghun said the Department of Pubic Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement the project in coordination with his office.
The Zambales solon visited Sta. Fe on Sunday, August 16, and noted that the old bridge has withstood floodings since it was built 12 years ago but gave way this year due to strong river current that carried large trees and other debris.
At the same time, he distributed family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Region III, along with DSWD Regional Director Venus Rebuldela and Sta. Fe Barangay Chairman Rico Diego Arquero.
Khonghun said his office will continue to provide assistance until the lives and livelihood of residents in the isolated community go back to normal.
In the following days, Khonghun visited residents in the First District who were affected by heavy rains and floods, especially those still staying in evacuation centers.
In Olongapo City, he visited evacuees in Barangays New Ilalim, New Kababae, Old Cabalan, Kalaklan and Sta. Rita and likewise provided them with DSWD food packs.
Hea also visited evacuees at the Calapacuan Elementary School and gave away food packs with Mayor Jon Khonghun, Chief of Staff Janjo Khonghun, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) staff, and barangay leaders.
Khonghun also thanked Barangay Calapacuan Chairperson Tita Alver, as well as local rescue and health workers, for assisting in the evacuation of the flood vicitms.
Khonghun also spent time with evacuees in Castillejos, Zambales on Thursday, August 20, to listen to their concerns and help provide for their needs in the evacuation centers. – Alex Galang
