SUBIC, Zambales — Despite heavy monsoon rains induced by Typhoon ‘Inday,’ low-lying areas in this town did not experience the usual flooding during the stormy season.

Zambales First District Representative Jay Khonghun attributed this to the effective flood mitigation program supervised by his office in coordination with the municipal government under Mayor Jonathan Khonghun.

Khonghun said among the areas that escaped flooding recently are barangays Sto. Tomas, San Isidro, Cawag, Naugsol, Ilwas, Asinan Proper, Aningway and Manggahan.

“All of these barangays used to be flood-prone,” the congressman pointed out. “Residents are now happy that their homes were not flooded and they were spared of any worry.”

The Subic LGU, meanwhile, said that continuous desilting operations at the Manggahan, Ilwas and Sacatihan rivers resulted in the efficient flow of water along the waterways. The desilting program is complemented by the regular cleanup of creeks and canals in the municipality, it added.

Earlier, Mayor Khonghun had assured residents that the LGU will be ready for the effects of extreme weather, whether it be under the La Niña or El Niño phenomenon.

“We will continue with programs that will protect and secure the lives and properties of every Subiqueño against any calamity,” he added. ▲
