SUBIC, Zambales — Agila Subic Compass, Inc. (Agila Subic), operator of the multi-use shipyard at the Redondo Peninsula here, has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office (SDO) Zambales to build and improve school facilities in this town.
Under the MOA, which was made under the “Adopt-a-School” corporate social responsibility initiative, Agila Subic will provide P30 million over the next two years to fund infrastructure projects at nine public schools in Brgy. Cawag.
The beneficiaries include Agusuhin Elementary School, Agusuhin Elementary School-Annex, Agusuhin High School, Cawag Elementary School, Cawag Elementary School (Resettlement), Cawag High School (Resettlement), Cabitaugan Integrated School, Nagyantok Elementary School, and Nagyantok High School.
The P30 million commitment will fund the construction of classrooms and a new school building, repair of existing facilities, and provision of such essentials as school furniture and other equipment.
Mark Glenn D. Millan, general manager of Agila Subic, said the company will provide support based on the specific needs identified by each school.
Zambales Schools Division Superintendent William Roderic Fallorin, meanwhile, expressed his gratitude to the company for the staunch support the local community is getting.
“This P30 million worth of investment in the future of Zambaleňo learners is a [significant] thing for us, especially in Cawag group,” Fallorin said. “It’s not just about school buildings, we talk about other things that also matter [in local education]. Thank you for addressing our most pressing needs,” he added.
The formal signing of the partnership is governed by Republic Act (R.A.) No. 8525 or the “Adopt-a-School” Act of 1998, which encourages the private sector to provide support for the development and modernization of public schools.
Agila Subic officials said the MOA marks a significant milestone in the company’s long-term vision to empower local communities through education.
Earlier this year, Agila Subic completed a five-kilometer road enhancement project in Cawag, which included road re-blocking and installation of solar streetlights.
The company said it also conducts an annual mangrove planting program in collaboration with the local fisherfolk community to advocate environmental sustainability. ▲
