BOTOLAN, Zambales — Despite scaled-down festivities, organizers of the upcoming Pinatubo Festival expressed optimism that this year’s celebration will remain meaningful and inclusive, particularly for indigenous communities and residents who play a central role in the festival’s identity.

The municipal government of Botolan has released a consolidated schedule of activities running from April 23 to May 4, reflecting what officials described as a more mindful approach aligned with national directives, responsible governance, and current economic conditions.

Zambales mango, the Pinatubo lake, a sea turtle, and an Ayta kid dominate the canvas of an entry in the “Sining Biswal” art competition at Botolan’s Pinatubo Festival (Botolan MIO)

Local officials said the streamlined program aims to balance cultural celebration with efficiency and sustainability while continuing to promote Botolan’s heritage and tourism potential.

The festival recently earned recognition as the Most Outstanding Festival in the municipality category in the Department of Tourism Recognition for Enterprises and Stakeholders Awards, highlighting its growing contribution to cultural preservation and eco-tourism initiatives in Zambales.

This year’s lineup includes Mount Pinatubo Labor Day hike and an indigenous bow-and-arrow competition, which aims to promote and highlight indigenous peoples’ culture and participation in the celebration.

Other activities also include championship games, visual arts activities, a musical extravaganza, a community gathering, and closing events featuring a civic mass, parade, Pinatubo Festival King and Queen pageant, and a music festival.

Organizers said they hope the festival’s 2026 edition will continue to strengthen community pride and unity while honoring traditions that define Botolan’s cultural identity.

“Together, let us remain hopeful and look forward to an even more vibrant and grand Pinatubo Festival in the coming year,” the municipality said. ▲
