Local mango takes centerstage in Masinloc fiesta

MASINLOC, Zambales | March 20, 2026 — The world’s sweetest mango and the pride of the Province of Zambales received prominent focus in the week-long celebration of the civic town fiesta here.

Starting with the Agri-Tourism Booth exhibits on March 9, local mango products stole the show in the Mango and Suman Boodle Fight and the Mango Product Competition on March 12, as well as the 1st Masinloc Mango Expo on March 14.

Mayor Hazel Lim (left) and Vice Mayor Arsenia Jalata-Lim join residents and town officials in the “Mango and Suman Boodle Fight,” a popular feature of the civic fiesta in this town that produces the sweetest mango in the world.

The activities sought to further promote Masinloc’s carabao mango, which was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s sweetest in 1995, said Masinloc Mayor Hazel Jalata Lim.

In particular, Lim cited “Mah-mit Salvi” as Masinloc’s mango brand, which is taken from the Sambal word for “sweet” and San Salvador Island where the renowned variety is grown.

Carabao mangoes grown in Masinloc, particularly on San Salvador Island, are popular for their exceptional sweetness, boasting a 23% total soluble sugar content that led to Guinness World Records recognition as the world’s sweetest in 1995.

Aside from record-setting sweetness, which was affirmed by the Asia Boof of Records in 2023, local mangoes are fiberless and aromatic, giving them top-tier distinction among mango varieties in the world.

To further drum up support for local mangoes, Masinloc fiesta organizers came up with the Mango and Suman Boodle Fight at Masinloc’s Baywalk Park in the past few years, wherein residents and visitors alike partake of the golden fruit with the local sticky rice delicacy wrapped in coconut frond.

This year, Mayor Lim also introduced the Mango Product, Pastry and Cake Competition to residents to create processed mango products that would boost their livelihood and provide business opportunities for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs.

The competition resulted in the production and exhibit of products like the mango cream puff, which was declared as the champion in the contest; spiced ham mango jam, mango ensaymada, mango chutney spread, pickled mangoes, mango Spanish bread, mango-cashew tart, mango cheesecake, mango cheese roll, as well as mango ice cream.

The 1st Masinloc Mango Expo, which was held with the support of the Municipal Agriculture Office and various barangays, showcased the best mango products in the locality with a competition that determined the smoothest-skinned, sweetest, and biggest mango fruits in town. – Taktikom News & Features
