NEWLY appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag paid a courtesy call on House Deputy Speaker and Zambales First District Representative Jay Khonghun to discuss priority measures aimed at strengthening national security, public order, and institutional accountability.
During the meeting, the two officials took up the proposed construction of a new NBI district office in Barangay Kalaklan, Olongapo City. The planned facility is envisioned to enhance the bureau’s operational capabilities in Zambales and deliver faster, more accessible investigative services to the public.

Once completed, the new building is expected to significantly improve response time, expedite case processing and provide upgraded forensic and intelligence support for law enforcement operations across the province and neighboring areas.
Matibag and Khonghun also discussed the need to intensify the government’s campaign against the proliferation of misinformation or “fake news,” which they noted has fueled public confusion and undermined trust in institutions.
Both officials underscored the importance of accountability and the strict enforcement of existing laws against individuals who deliberately disseminate false and misleading information.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to closer coordination between the legislative and investigative branches to safeguard peace, uphold the rule of law and promote stability nationwide. — Alex Galang
