MARIVELES, Bataan — Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) won a Silver Anvil Award for its flagship Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program undertaken in partnership with the Bataan government through the firm’s limited partnership platforms GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD).
AboitizPower received the recognition during the Gabi ng Parangal in the recent 61st Anvil Awards held last January 28, at Solaire Resort North in Quezon City.
The Silver Anvil Awards spotlight the best strategic communications campaigns of the year, as well as outstanding organizational excellence, according to awards organizer Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP).

Andrea Mellind Madrid, GMEC and GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services, said the Silver Anvil given to AboitizPower “affirms that sustainability is most impactful when it is clearly communicated and deeply rooted in community partnership.”
“Through the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program, we are not only restoring vital coastal ecosystems, but also empowering communities to become long-term stewards of the environment,” she added.
Madrid received the Silver Anvil along with Bataan Environment and Natural Resources Office OIC Raphael De Leon, GMEC/GNPD Senior Specialist for Environment Kristian San Diego, GMEC/GNPD Reputation and Stakeholder Management manager Joseph Paolo Mendoza, and AboitizPower TBG Strategic Communications Senior Specialist Dominic Bolo.
GMEC and GNPD embarked on the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program in 2023 in partnership with the Bataan provincial government under the Transform Baka1Bataan project.
The project started out with a five-hectare mangrove site at Sitio Pulo in Orani town where some 70 volunteers planted 500 mangrove seedlings and 500 propagules.
The initiative then expanded to multiple coastal sites across the province, integrating science-based mangrove restoration with alternative livelihood development to support biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community empowerment.
Since its implementation, the program has achieved a high mangrove seedling survival rate, surpassed community income targets through sustainable livelihood initiatives, and established formal partnerships with local government units, fisherfolk associations, and national agencies.
AboitizPower said the successful implementation positioned Project Baka1Bataan as a replicable model for community-led coastal protection.
