SPOOKY TREATS

IN Iba, they called it “Katatacute-an.” In Botolan, it was “Boo, Boo, Boo! Trick or Treat. And in San Felipe, it’s part of “Aldaw ti Minatay.” But whatever you call it, it’s spooky treats just the same, as kids (and some adults, too) dress up in colorful costumes and as various LGUs decorate offices for the Halloween.

The Halloween, which is a cultural and Christian celebration held on the eve of All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’ Day), is said to have originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter. Thus, it was believed to be the time when the boundary between the living and the dead blurred. For locals, however, it’s fun, thrill, and sometimes horror all the way.
