VOLUNTEERS from all over Zambales trooped to coastal areas for the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day this year, turning a worldwide day of action into local collaborative efforts to make a difference for the environment.

The ICC event drew participants from local government units, community volunteer associations, schools and youth group, farmers and fisherfolk organizations, divers’ groups, private companies, as well as employees of municipal environment offices and other national agencies.

Several coastal cleanup activities took place from September 18 to 20. Some were held along rivers and other waterways; others in community centers and focused on drainage canals that empty into the sea. 
