BOTOLAN, Zambales — Ninety-five examinees for the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) received cash assistance from the local government unit of Botolan, Zambales, as they prepared for the big day on March 23.
Mayor Jun Omar Ebdane said the cash assistance is meant to encourage future educators from Botolan to pursue their dreams and ultimately contribute to further development of the community.
“We do this not only for the sake of the examinees, but also with an eye for the future because we are hoping that they would come back here and share their knowledge with the future generations of Botoleños,” Ebdane said.
“This is an investment for tomorrow,” he added.
The licensure examination, which is administered by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC), is mandatory for all aspiring teachers under Republic Act No. 7836, also known as the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994.”
The examination is given on two levels: elementary level, which consists of two parts— Professional Education and General Education; and secondary level, which consists of three parts—Professional Education, General Education, and Field of Specialization.
All aspiring teachers must pass the LET in order to practice their profession, as practicing teaching without proper certification is punishable under the law.

Meanwhile, the education program in Botolan received another boost with the inauguration on March 19 of a three-story multi-purpose building for the government-owned Polytechnic College of Botolan (PCB).
The new building was constructed with funding from Zambales Second District Representative Doris “Bing” Maniquiz and the DIWA Partylist.
The structure was formally opened to the public by Cong. Maniquiz, Mayor Ebdane, Vice mayor Doris Ladines and members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Botolan, PCB president Dr. Mary Grace Managan, and PCB administrator Dr. Joy Cortez.
