CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Police Regional Office in Central Luzon (PRO-3) reported a 6.33 percent drop in focus crimes from Jan. 1 to Feb. 22 this year.

In a statement on Wednesday, PRO-3 said 444 focus crimes were recorded during the period, down from 474 in the same period last year.

Classified as focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping.

PRO-3 director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo attributed the downward trend to PRO-3’s intensified law enforcement efforts, particularly the strict implementation of the nationwide election gun ban, regular checkpoint operations, search warrant enforcement, and enhanced police visibility in crime-prone areas.

“The relentless enforcement of the gun ban, continuous checkpoint operations, and intelligence-driven arrests are taking criminals off the streets and making communities safer,” she said.

“We will not back down. PRO-3 remains steadfast in ensuring peace and order, especially with the elections approaching,” Fajardo added.

As part of its election security measures, PRO-3 has ramped up its campaign against illegal firearms, leading to the confiscation of 187 assorted firearms and explosives and the arrest of 190 individuals for gun ban violations.

The crackdown aims to prevent gun-related crimes and election-related violence and ensure a safe and orderly election period.

PRO-3 also said it has bolstered its police visibility through increased foot and mobile patrols, particularly in high-risk areas, ensuring swift police response when needed. (PNA)
