
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) season has started. Now on its 50th year, it will run from December 25, 2024, to January 7, 2025 at all SM Cinemas. This year’s entries showcase a variety of genres, from action-packed thrillers to heartfelt dramas and comedies.
Here’s the exciting lineup of films this year:
• Green Bones Green Bones is an inspirational drama film directed by Zig Dulay. The film follows the story of a prisoner, played by Dennis Trillo, who is up for parole after being locked up for murder, with Ruru Madrid as a newly assigned prison guard.
• And the Breadwinner is… And The Breadwinner Is… is a highly anticipated comedy film directed by the acclaimed Jun Robles Lana. It stars Vice Ganda, Jhong Hilario, Eugene Domingo, Maris Racal, and many more.
• Isang Himala Isang Himala, a reimagined version of the 1982 classic Himala. Directed by Pepe Diokno, the film takes viewers back to the fictional Baryo Cupang, a rough mining town where the story’s central themes of chaos and transformation unfold.
• The Kingdom The Kingdom is an upcoming epic historical drama directed by Mike Tuviera. The film stars Piolo Pascual and Vic Sotto, marking their first collaboration in an action-packed portrayal.
• Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital is a horror entry directed by Erik Matti. The film is based on the 2018 South Korean cult horror film Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.
• My Future You My Future You is a romantic comedy directed by Crisanto Aquino, starring Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin.
• Uninvited Uninvited is a thriller film directed by Dan Villegas. The film stars veteran actors Vilma Santos, Nadine Lustre, and Aga Mulach.
• Topakk Topakk is an action-drama entry directed by Richard V. Somes. The film stars Arjo Atayde, Julia Montes, Sid Lucero, and Kokoy De Santos.
• Espantaho Espantaho is a drama-thriller directed by Chito S. Roño, starring Judy Ann Santos and Lorna Tolentino.
• Hold Me Close Hold Me Close is a drama film directed by Jason Paul Laxamana. It stars Julia Barretto and Carlo Aquino. The movie follows a wanderer and a girl with a unique ability to sense whether the people she touches will bring happiness or harm into her life.
