SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – Two fully electric public utility vehicles (e-PUVs) will be plying the streets at the Central Business District here from September 13 to 27, as the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) looks forward to a “green” public transportation system at the Subic Freeport in the long run.
The project is part of SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño’s program to provide free or low-cost transportation services to Subic Freeport stakeholders and improve local quality of life. It is being undertaken in collaboration with Basic Energy Corporation, the company behind the Green Energy E-Transport Program (GEEP).
The SBMA chief said that the e-PUVs on test run will be used to ferry commuters from CBD-A bus stop situated at the Golden Dragon Restaurant parking area, and CBD-B bus stop at the Kalaklan Terminal.
He also lauded the SBMA committee on public transportation, chaired by Deputy Administrator for Finance Antonietta Sanqui, for coming up with a roadmap and action plan for a more accessible and affordable, yet sustainable and energy-efficient transportation for residents and other Freeport stakeholders.

The ePUVs made the inaugural run here during the ecotour for the Second Central Luzon Sustainable Tourism Summit held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.
“These ePUVs that were used to take tourism summit participants to their designated ecotours here and in Zambales aim to reduce carbon emissions in Subic Bay,” Aliño pointed out.
