SUBIC, Zambales – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now undertaking construction of a P94-million flood-control project in this town to help ease the rise of water in the flood-prone areas of Barangay Matain and Sta. Monica Subdivision.

Zambales 2nd District Engineer Rosbe Dizon said the DPWH started the project last February 16 and has set completion date at December 11, 2024.

Dizon said the flood mitigation project has an allotted budget of P94,309,220.10 and is divided into three sections, all to be completed before the end of the year.

The project is situated at the mouth of the Matain River.

Dizon added that the flood mitigation structure will protect public infrastructures and facilities, and will improve the flow of water in the Matain River.

The project is also designed to prevent water build-up in areas that are prone to flooding, he said.

Accordingly, upon completion of this project, residents in the said areas are expected to enjoy a greater sense of security, knowing that their homes and properties are protected against the risks posed by the river during heavy rains.
