North Luzon SM Malls give Christmas cheer to communities

SM Supermalls in North Luzon spread Christmas cheers as they held simultaneous gift-giving activities on Dec. 6, distributing more than 4,000 Christmas packs all over the region through its charity arm SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI).

Celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, the gift-giving brought smiles and cheers to chosen beneficiaries in the region and further promoted SM’s culture of volunteerism.

SM City Olongapo Central and SM City Olongapo Downtown distributed a total of 590 food packs, with 400 packs given to street cleaners, drivers, river cleaners, maintenance workers, field inspectors, landfill personnel and security aides. 190 packs were given to barkers, tricycle drivers, and barangay tanods.

In SM City Bataan, they distributed over 100 Christmas baskets to members of Tinig ng Mandaragat, a community organization responsible for maintaining the mangrove sanctuary adopted by SM Prime Holdings Inc. in Brgy. Puerto Rivas, Balanga, Bataan.

In SM City Tarlac, 400 beneficiaries including streetsweepers, garbage haulers, and barangay workers from San Roque Tarlac received noche buena packages. SM Supermalls in Tuguegarao distributed a total of 800 Christmas baskets to tricycle drivers in Tuguegarao City, underemployed residents, tanods and health care workers, and street sweepers in Barangay Ugac Sur, Tuguegarao City.

For SM City Baguio, a total of 250 city garbage collectors and 65 street sweepers at Transfer Station in Tuba, Benguet received food packs. SM City Cauayan distributed 400 Christmas baskets to barangay workers, farmers and senior citizens in Cauayan City in Angadanan and San Augustin, Isabela while SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter Cabanatuan gave away 590 Christmas baskets to utilities, SM TODA members, PWDs, senior citizens, and the poorest of the poor.

SM Supermalls in Pangasinan gave Christmas baskets to 1,090 beneficiaries. In SM City Rosales, beneficiaries included 500 street vendors and sweepers, senior citizens, PWDs, farmers, and barangay workers. SM City Urdaneta distributed 400 noche buena packages to barangay health workers, barangay tanods and maintenance workers, PWDs, and small farmers. In SM Center Dagupan, 190 fishermen were given Christmas baskets.

In Bulacan, a total of 990 beneficiaries were given Christmas baskets, with SM City Marilao distributing noche buena packages to 400 street vendors, garbage collectors, delivery riders, tricycle drivers, construction workers, and senior citizens. In SM City Baliwag, a total of 400 Christmas baskets were distributed to barangays Pagala and Pinagbarilan. In SM City Pulilan, 190 beneficiaries including TODA members, garbage collectors, and street sweepers were given food packs.

SM City Clark celebrated this holiday season by generously distributing 400 noche buena packages to recipients that included street sweepers from Brgy. Malabanias, Brgy. Lakandula’s indigents, Brgy. Balibago, Brgy. Dau’s street sweepers, and those involved in solid waste management. SM City Pampanga brought holiday cheer to 400 street sweepers and garbage collectors from Mexico and the City of San Fernando, marking the season with gestures of appreciation for their hard work.

SM City Telabastagan extended its holiday generosity to 400 beneficiaries, comprising jeepney and tricycle drivers operating at the mall terminal, as well as street sweepers and garbage haulers from Barangay Lara. A special holiday gift went to 46 beneficiaries from Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, who were selected to receive Christmas cheers from SM City San Fernando Downtown.

In the spirit of giving, SM Savemore Market Apalit coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) office to provide 120 noche buena packages to PWDs, tricycle drivers from the mall terminal, street sweepers, garbage haulers, and underpaid employees from various barangays in Apalit.

In SM City Grand Central, 400 beneficiaries including street sweepers, garbage collectors, pedicab and jeepney drivers received food packs. In SM City Valenzuela and SM Center Sangandaan, a total of 380 recipients of Christmas baskets included garbage collectors and street sweepers.

In SM Savemore Malabon, 120 Christmas baskets were distributed to pedicab drivers, street sweepers, and garbage collectors. The gift-giving is part of SM Supermalls effort to support communities and sectors in need especially persons with disabilities, senior groups, urban poor, and indigenous people. 
