SM malls in Central Luzon, SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Olongapo Downtown, SM City Pampanga, SM City Clark, SM City San Fernando Downtown, SM Telabastagan, Savemore Market Apalit, SM City Tarlac, SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter Cabanatuan joined the face-to-face 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 9, 2023.

SM employees, affiliates, agencies, tenants and customers were enjoined to participate in the said activity and simultaneously practice Duck, Cover and Hold. Safety standards and protocols for conducting in-person earthquake drills were observed while administering the minimum health standards.

To signify the practice, the Emergency Response Group(ERG) of the mall initiated the ceremonial sound,

emergency coordination, and communication simulation exercise at exactly 2:00PM.

“We will continue to provide this kind of training to our employees to ensure awareness and preparedness on the impending threat of the inevitable occurrence of earthquake,” said Engr. Ariel Ferrer, mall manager of SM City Olongapo Central.

It can be recalled that SM Prime’s Hans T. Sy was recently recognized for his contribution to nation-building and resiliency in the country through sustainability and disaster risk reduction at The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Awards 2022.

Over 2,500 participants including customers, tenants/affiliates, BPO and SM employees and agencies participated in the simultaneous drills. The activity was fully supported by local government partners, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices. ~
