Zambales fisherman feared missing off Bajo de Masinloc

MANILA – One of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s search-and-rescue vessels, the BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402), was deployed on August 1 to look for a fisherman who went missing off the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) in Zambales.

A report forwarded by Coast Guard spokesperson, Commodore Armando Balilo, to the Philippine News Agency Thursday showed that PCG-Station Subic received information on July 31 that 42-year-old Luz Piliin of Barangay Mangan Vaca, Subic, Zambales went missing in the said waters while fishing aboard a small boat.

Piliin’s fellow fishermen aboard F/B Renz Ronel believed that the victim might have gone missing after encountering big waves and strong winds off sea.

“Other fishermen who tried to look for him failed to do so due to inclement weather,” the PCG report said.

It added that a PCG Britten-Norman Islander patrol aircraft was also dispatched to help the BRP Malabrigo in its search-and-rescue operations. (Priam Nepomuceno / PNA)
