Subic sets week-long festival

SUBIC’s iconic town festival “Subic Ay!” takes off on April 30, with a week-long program that is guaranteed to raise the bar in local fiesta entertainment and cultural show.
Under S.B. Resolution No. 52, series of 2004, the Subic Ay! Festival has been established as an official celebration for Subic to be held every three years.

“It’s actually a mix of the old and the new—a blending of the modern and the traditional, because that’s what we are as a people, as a community that is evolving and adapting,” said Mayor Jay Khonghun.

“Also, we are trying to bring in all possible aspects of community life to the celebration, so that all the residents, whether young or old, could relate to the occasion and, thus, would participate in the activities,” he added.

This year’s edition of the annual festival incorporates the traditional agro-industrial exhibition that is a regular fare in Zambales fiestas, as community festivals are supposed to be thanksgiving for bountiful harvest.

Thus, Day 1 (April 30) will see the Barangay Product Exhibit, Food Festival and Night Market that will follow the kick-off motorcade and ecumenical service. On the cultural side, the first day will feature the talent and swimsuit competition for the Ginoo at Binibining Subic 2018 pageant.

Day 2 (May 1) will see the implementation of a medical mission to hammer in the Khonghun administration’s thrust for social service. This will be complemented by a Barangay and Senior Citizens Night wherein outstanding Subikenyos will be recognized.

Day 3 (May 2), meanwhile, will shift focus to the younger generations of residents with the staging of a Drum and Lyre Competition, Float Parade, and coronation night for the Ginoo at Binibining Subic 2018 pageant winners.

Day 4 (May 3) turns the spotlight on farmers and fisherfolk communities with the Karakol, Bangka Race, and Cultural Show that are designed to bring out the best in local folk singing and dancing that have been part of the rich cultural heritage of the community. This day will also feature heavy entertainment with a live band show, the Ms. Gay Subic 2018 pageant, and Battle of the Bands.

Day 5 (May 4) starts with a Job Fair and Multi-Service Caravan to pay tribute to the workers in the municipality. This will be followed by evening entertainment in the form of a live band show, the Mr. and Ms. Subic Bodies competition, and a Rave Party with Fashion Show.

Day 6 (May 5) will focus on health and sports, with a half marathon kicking off the activities for the day, followed by the Zumba Hataw Sayaw activity. The night will be any entertainment fan’s dream with big-name singers and actors joining the Variety Show, followed by a fireworks display to cap the night.

Day 7 (May 6) will provide the finale in the form of a Thanksgiving Mass to express appreciation for all the growth and development that the Subic community has been reaping. This will be followed by a Street Dance Grand Parade and street dance competitions for the municipality and barangay levels.
